Spring, Sprang, Sprung

As icebergs of piss and snow drip, ooze, and melt around the streets of Manhattan, trampled by the bustling feet of eager February Fashion Week goers, we are reminded of the inevitable return of spring and the increasingly pressing fact that "I have nothing to wear." Spring cleaning must ensue and, once again, you must ask yourself: What will go, what will stay, and what do I need to buy? Your only sense of comfort in this choas: you are not alone. We are all in this together. For this reason, I have decided to compile a collective guide to your spring must-haves and must-goes.

Here to Stay

While the current state of your closet may feel overwhelming, I assure you that many timeless classics lay below your large pile of winter layers. Obviously, basics must stay: your classic denim pieces, cute little tanks and tees, and fun little skirts are here to serve as the sturdy foundation upon which your spring wardrobe will rely, once again. With maximalism overtaking the "clean girl" look of past years, ALL of your accessories must stay: scarves, belts, headbands, glasses, hairclips, stacked necklaces and bracelets, I want to see them all. On that same note, keep your patterns please. Everything from stripes, to animal prints, polka dots, and plaid, we are wearing them all, sometimes all at once. 2026 is about speaking out, your outfit is not an exception. Down to the shoes, your boots are here to stay for another year. That being said, last year's trend of flats and wedges doesn't seem to be going anywhere either; time to dust them off.

What's Run it's Course

Before I dive into the hefty list of pieces I beg you to get rid of, I would like to remind you that I am not an AI Chatbot. This is blog is written by a human and, therefore, contains many opinions. You are not obligated to take my advice, just know that I will be silently judging you if you don't. Additionally, throwing away old clothing is NOT COOL, I strongly encourage you to up-cycle, resell, or donate your old pieces. D.I.Y. and secondhand clothing is in for 2026.

Starting off strong: Adidas sambas are done. Probably best to avoid any sort of sneaker trend that was popular circa 2023 or 2024. You know the ones. Everyone HAD to have a pair, constantly sold out and frankly overpriced for the quality. Sorry Adidas, I think we're all over it. Moving right along, lets get rid of those high waisted leggings and athleisure sets. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for comfort, but do we constantly need to look prepared to run a mile? Third on my list, and I ask this genuinly, is anyone else tired of satin? It just doesn't sit right, lets go for a fabric with a little more structure. Lastly, and I know some of you will be upset with my saying so, let's get rid of those overly-chunky shoes. 2026 is about shedding some extra weight, letting go of what does not serve you. Is lugging around 5-pound shoes all day really serving you?

Must-Buys

A list of everything you should be watching out for, effective immediately.

Girlhood is coming back in a big way this year and nothing screams femininity like a tutu or petticoat. My best advice is to hunt for these at the thrift as they are becoming overpriced online, and older ones simply feel more authentic. On the subject of femininity, the girlies are ditching comfort in 2026. Flats and kitten heels are the shoes of the summer, and all sneakers must have wedges. If you haven't invested in at least one pair of flats or wedges, now is the time. To top off your doll-like look, you will be needing at least one top with obnoxiously large or even a-symmetrical buttons.

Another important investment I feel everyone needs to make at least once is in some kind of reworked and/or screenprinted piece. As previously mentioned, D.I.Y. is trending this year and so many artists are showcasing their talents through reworked clothing. Not only will you be shopping small and sustainable, you get to wear someone's artwork on your body.

Other fun prints, details, and accessories to look out for include (but are not limited to) polka dots, fringes, large slouchy purses, fun hair clips and pins, and so much more.

As a reminder:

This blog is completely biased and opinion based, it is not one-size-fits-all. The most important trend of 2026 is freedom of expression, so wear what feels good.
